620 CKRM Regina Radio Over the Years!!

I am a country music fan and love almost every song I hear on the radio. Mostly, I listen to these songs on a Regina Radio Station, 620 CKRM. They are the Source for Country Music and everything that really matters.Over the past couple of years they have been advertising in their liners they are proudly Saskatchewan. The reason for that is because they talk about every community as if the announcers live there. The on- air team does a really good job. Of course we encourage them to keep up the good work.

620 CKRM has had some changes over the past few years. I should not be surprised because nothing stays the same forever. All it took was a little getting used to. Within no time I have adapted to the changes the radio station made. I will admit I miss the way things were only a  few years ago. But then sometimes I feel it was nice the radio station made those changes.

Of course I could never mention every single change. I will share the changes I know off the top of my head. They are listed below in the next couple of paragraphs.

620 CKRM when I first started listening was Saskatchewan's Home of Country Music. During the later part of August 2009, they renamed their station to The Source. Saskatchewan's Home of Country Music had musical liners and jingles while The Source had only liners from the voice guy. Then in May 2010, Perry Nhyus vacated the Afternoon Drive Show to begin an exciting career in the sales department. The radio station from thier onward was never the same again. The Monday after this change occured a couple of new programs debuted. From 4-6 PM, Rod Pedersen hosted a Sports Talk Radio show called " The Sportscage" which airs weekdays year round. They talk about the Saskatchewan Roughriders, Regina Pats, U of R Rams and all the sports that matters. Then from 6-11PM a nationally syndicated show " The Casey Clarke Show" took over the airwaves weeknigts year round.

Moving along to some changes which had occured in 2011. Boy, this radio station seems different all the time. In February 2011 around the beginning of the month, former evening host but still current weekend show host Adam Bouvier got fired. I'm not sure why he got fired. Alll that I know is he was no longer at this radio station. Come the Family Day Long Weekend, Ray Alan took over his weekend shift. Ray hasn't worked at 620 CKRM since 1983 before this. Ray still works weekends between 10 and 4 today. He sometimes substitutes during weekdays as well. We come to the end of April, 2011 and Program Director and Morning Show Co-host Willy Cole retires. He had a big celebration the night before he retired at Casino Regina. Again, when Willy left, the radio station would never be the same again. Moving onto a week later Morning News Anchor Roger Currie spent his last day at 620 CKRM. He moved to Winnipeg and works now at a radio station there. After the Victoria Day Long Weekend a new female Morning Show CO-host took over from where Willy Cole left off. Her name is Gloria Evans and is still working at the radio station today with her sidekick Jamie Lewis. One day after she began her career, a new Afternoon Drive host was hired. He is Ryan Schultz and he began hosting the Drive from 2-4 pm. The Afternoon Drive Show was extended until 5pm in August 2011. Therefore " The Sportscage" aired from 5-7pm and Casey Clarke was on from 7pm until Midnight. Also at this time Newsline at Noon with Jim Smalley was replaced with Saskatchewan Agriculture Today with Jim Smalley.

Almost have you up to date to todays format at 620 CKRM. The most recent change I could note is now from 7pm until Midnight weekdays there is a live evening show with a guy named Nevan. You can find out what is happening in Saskatchewan each weeknight. Of course this program is called "Saskatchewan  At Night."

www.620ckrm.com is the website for this radio station. You are encourgaed to check it out. Most of the announcers have blogs which you can read. There is a daily web poll for you to checkout and it changes each weekday. All this and much more on 620 CKRM's website.

There you have it everyone! A little information about my favorite radio station, The Source, 620 CKRM Regina.

  1. Since Willy Cole left the station ratings have hit a landslide downhill. He was CKRM. Everything that happened at the station was because of his direction and seemingly endless energy. The station is but a shell of what it once was. It now ranks at #5 in the Regina market. During willy's career it was #1 ( Source BBM)

  2. Yeah, that station certainly is not what it once used to be.

  3. The station has seen multiple changes over the years. It's like a completely different station from even 10 or 11 years ago. Different dj's, and some programming has changed.
